Tour Directors
Are you a good leader? Are you someone who likes to communicate to a large body of people? Do you like to travel with a group of friends or family? Would you like to visit New York City and all it has to offer for free? If you answered yes to one more of those questions, then tour directing is definitely for you! Here are some commonly asked questions in regards to who a tour director is and what the responsibilities and benefits are of being a tour director.
Who is a tour director?
A tour director is a person who is the liaison from me the tour operator (the person setting up the tour) and the rest of the group.
What are his/her responsibilities?
The tour director is responsible for putting together the group of 10 or more people and maintaining good communication with them by either holding meetings, calling them on the phone, or e-mailing them. It is imperative that the tour director convey important information that I send him/her and that they maintain the numbers of people in the group that have been agreed upon when the contract is set up. It is also very important that the tour director collect monies and send them to me in one package together and on time. Tour directors also need to put together the proper lists for who is rooming with whom, special needs (ex: someone is allergic to peanuts or is in a wheel chair), and the lists for flights. Though being a tour director has many responsibilities, there are many benefits.
What are the benefits for being a tour director?
If you bring 10 or more people, you receive a free flight as well free accommodation while in the city. If you bring 20 or more people, you receive a free complete trip to New York City which includes all Broadway shows, baseball games, meals, and other amenities. If you bring 30 or more people, you receive 2 (two) free complete trips to New York City which will make your spouse or friend very happy! If you bring over 30 and up to 50 people, you will receive not only 2 free complete trips to New York City but a $50.00 honorarium for each person. So potentially, a tour director can enjoy all that New York City has to offer for up to 2 people as well as up to $1,000.00 to spend as he or she wishes! Now thats a deal!
